Is The Hold Bendigo accessible?

Short answer

Partly, and we would rather be specific than reassuring. The main entrance fits a standard 85cm wheelchair, with a wider roller door available on request. There is an accessible toilet and shower, and dedicated accessible parking at the entrance. The climbing mats sit about 43cm above floor level with no ramp at present, and the upstairs training area is reached by stairs only.

Can I get into the building?

Yes. The main entrance takes a standard 85cm wheelchair, and there is a wider roller door we can open if you let us know. There is dedicated parking at the entrance including an accessible spot, and plenty of street parking on Hattam Street.

  • We are at 80 Hattam Street, Golden Gully.
  • Bike racks are on site, and it is a 10 minute ride from Kangaroo Flat VLine station.

Can I get onto the climbing mats?

Not step-free at the moment. The climbing area and matting sit about 43cm above floor level and there is no ramp. We would rather say so plainly than have somebody arrive and find out. Talk to us before you come and we will tell you honestly what is workable.

  • Call 0431 440 985 or email hello@thehold.studio.
  • The upstairs training area is stairs only.

What facilities are there?

An accessible toilet and an accessible shower. The cafe seating area is open to everyone whether you are climbing or not, so somebody can come along without paying entry or getting on the wall.

  • Supervising adults who are not climbing do not pay entry.
  • Dogs are welcome on a leash, supervised, and off the matting.

Is there support for Deaf or hard of hearing climbers?

Yes - an Auslan safety induction is available on request if you give us some notice. The induction is the part of a first visit that has to be understood rather than skimmed, so it is worth arranging rather than working around.

  • Email hello@thehold.studio ahead of your visit.
  • Everything else about a first session is visual anyway - you are being shown, not lectured.

Can we visit before we climb?

Yes, and we encourage it. Weekday mornings and early afternoons are quietest, roughly 8:30am to 2pm Monday to Friday. That suits anybody - a child with additional needs, an adult who wants to see the space first - who would rather understand the room before being in it.

  • Pre-visits can be arranged by phone on 0431 440 985 or by email.
  • The cafe seating area is open to everyone, climbing or not, so you can sit and watch before deciding anything.

Who do I talk to about something not listed here?

Email hello@thehold.studio or call 0431 440 985 and ask. If something here is a barrier for you we would rather know about it than not, including the things we cannot fix quickly.

  • Open Monday to Friday 8:30am to 9pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am to 9pm.
  • The waiver is online at thehold.studio/waivers-code-of-conduct.
