Under 18?

Easy - if you’re under 18, you can climb if all of the following are met:

  1. You’re 6 years and above.

  2. You have adult supervision (see requirements below).

  3. A parent or legal guardian must have read and signed your waiver before you climb.

  4. You (and adults responsible for supervising you) must complete our safety induction with staff before entering the climbing areas.

  5. You’re able to follow our rules and Code of Conduct, so that everyone has a safe and fun climb.

Supervision

  • Supervising adults must be onsite and give each younger climber the level of supervision that climber personally needs to climb safely and follow our Code of Conduct. Younger climbers must also meet the age-based supervision requirements below.

  • Adults who are supervising under 18 climbers, and are not climbing themselves, do not need to pay for entry.

Age-based requirements

  • 6-12 years must be closely supervised by a responsible adult at all times.

  • 13-15 years must be supervised by a responsible adult or have completed the Hold Academy accreditation (available from early 2026).

  • 16-18 years can climb without adult supervision.

We’re stoked to have you here. Happy climbing — you’re going to love it.

First Timers’ FAQs

  • Absolutely! We welcome and encourage climbers of all experience and fitness levels.

  • Bouldering is one of the safest forms of climbing. There are no ropes or harnesses—just low walls (usually 3–4 metres high) and thick, padded flooring designed to absorb falls. Most falls are controlled and from low heights.

We’ll show you how to land safely when you visit, and our staff are always on hand to help.

  • Here’s your simple checklist:

Waiver: Mandatory for everyone — save time and fill it out online before you arrive.

Under 18: Make sure your waiver is signed by a guardian, and you’ve organised adult supervision requirements.

What to wear: Think gym gear — breathable and comfy.

Footwear: Must hire (bring socks to wear), or have your own climbing shoes.

Gym access: Bring a towel if you’re using the training area or shower facilities.

Read our Code of Conduct: We want everyone to feel safe, welcome and respected.

  • Climbing solo or with a few friends or family? Just walk in, no booking required.

For schools, clubs, special events, or groups of 10+, bookings are needed. Please reach out to us in at advance so we can chat about what you need, get everything set up, and confirm your booking. We also recommend your group fill out their waivers and organise adult supervision (see requirements for climbers under 18 years above) before you arrive.

  • No problem at all. Our community is super welcoming and you’ll never struggle to find someone to climb with.

  • Kids can start climbing at The Hold from 6 years and older as long as they meet all waiver, safety and supervision requirements (see Under 18? information above).

No upper age limit — everyone’s welcome at The Hold.

  • Nope!

Just come on in — our team will run through safety rules, falling safely and help you get comfortable and bouldering.

If you’d like to try climbing with a rope, our team will show you how to fit a harness and use the auto belay safely.

Groups over 10 people need to book in advance via email.

Young children, including babies, must be supervised at all times, kept off all padded matting, and guardians must attend promptly to any messes or accidents caused. Please be aware that dogs sometimes visit the gym too.

If a child is disruptive (e.g. noise or finding it hard to stay off the mats), you may be asked to take them outside, to avoid dangerous distractions to climbers and keep everyone safe.
